#WoD Wednesday: Rasputin (Vampire: The Requiem)

"Rasputin, a Siberian-born muzhik, or peasant, who underwent a religious conversion as a teenager and proclaimed himself a healer with the ability to predict the future, won the favor of Czar Nicholas II and Czarina Alexandra through his ability to stop the bleeding of their hemophiliac son, Alexei, in 1908." Grigori Rasputin's history is well known, but there is more to it. In life, he was a powerful faith healer, and may have had other powers as well, lost to the embrace. But sometime around his conversion at age 28, he became a pet project of a Mekhet who wished to groom him as a childe. This Mekhet was a Khaibit of the Lancea Sanctum but also secretly a heretic, a member of the long forbidden Cult of Set. Rasputin was made a ghoul, and remained one until his 'death' at age 47. When he finally lost his mortal life, he arose, nearly immediately, as a Kindred, embraced spontaneously by the virtue of the vitae already in his veins. His mentor and sire died somewhere around that time as well, so he was never truly inculcated in Kindred ways, though he would learn them over time, and to pretend he followed their traditions, quite skillfully. He presides over his own heretical sect of the Lance, using his warped and partial understanding of Setite lore to be monsters for god not just in a punishing sense, but a tempting one as well, leading mortals into sin before punishing them for their transgressions.
