Intro to Nordriki
Þjóð-konungr Goðormr of Nordriki
Great King Goðormr holds his capital at Vigaross, at the mouth of Vigfliot, the River of Victory. He reigns over all Nordriki, and still takes tribute from Spiozland, Varyagstrana, and Wendkraj. The two northern isles in the west, Hrimey and Orkos, are under his banner, but the Southern Isles are a teeming mass of feuding tribes and chieftains. To the east, the nomadic Vepan tribes follow the reindeer as they always have. To the North...Utangard. A terrible place of cold and darkness, outside the walls of the lands of mortals. Even the Snow elves avoid it, for it is the domain of dragons, giants, and other monsters. Goðormr holds his throne, in part, because he has sworn to defend Nordriki from the horrors of Utangard, and thus far, he has kept his promise. Many of his jarls and thanes raid the southern lands and the Western Isles for thralls and goods between spring planting and autumn harvest. The faithful of the Bright Gods claim that the gods forbid slavery, but the worship of Helvaldr and Slahtra, with their focus on war and conquest, has been dominant for centuries among the nobles and warrior class. The farmers and commonfolk mostly prefer the kinder gods ruled by Thrumr and Fridra, and object to the practices of their rulers . . . but silently, as they would prefer to live.
Unlike Vyzantos, the rulers tolerate the worship of Thrumr and his kin, they merely believe that their harsh lands are better served by harsh gods.
