Review: The Gravebond Ranger, by Colby Whittaker.

Here we go for the hundredth time, hand grenade pins in every line…

Colby has put out another winner with the Gravebond class. Once again, got a free review copy, so I really wish I could find something more to take points off for. Dangit. Evaluated, as usual, on utility, quality, presentation and price.

So as background, the Gravebond Ranger gets their special powers from the fact that their animal companion was killed…but they managed to keep them around as a wraithly entity with the strength of their bond. This gives the gravebond ranger some very interesting and powerful abilities.

Utility: If you’re running horror themed adventures, or just like the darker aspects to your DnD games, this thing is going to fit right in. It balances utility and coolness with a certain amount of danger and darkness, as well as more than a touch of tragedy. For the right table it’s super amazing. That said, I would deduct a small amount because it has to be the right table. Not everyone is going to want something this grim in play. The magic items and creatures are super cool, including a brand new type of magic item…but they are dependent on the class being used.

4/5

Quality: It’s good. Real good. The writing is clear and evocative, the powers are cool and powerful but not too powerful. Colby knows what he’s doing and you can tell.

5/5

Presentation: Like all his work, the layout is perfect and the art well chosen. Looks really good.

5/5

Price: Cheap. Like his other subclasses, you get lore, the subclass, critters, and items, all for less than 3 bucks. It’s a steal. Buy it.

5/5

Total is 19 out of 20 which rounds super easily to 5 out of 5. Here’s the link to get it. Which I heartily recommend.
