The Cosmomachy

The future is dark, and the galaxy is torn by war. Humanity reached the stars to find fierce enemies waiting. Giant battle mecha are made to help fight the draconic Kaiju of the Daekai and the transforming robots of the Technic League. AI is abandoned, as it is too easily taken over by the Technic League. Neural links, most easily made with things that are human shaped, become the only way to keep up with the processing speed of enemy AI, and the magically or psionically enhanced enhanced Daekai and Anekai, who maneuver for advantage and form alliances to defeat each other, but both intend eventual domination. Humanity is as splintered as it has always been, and the forces of the enigmatic Void threaten all existence. The insect folk, the Melissae and the Vespans, exist at the edges of the galaxy, threatening any who come too near.

Major factions struggle for control of the galaxy, using super soldiers, power armor, magic, mechs, and more:

the Achaean League of Allied Republics: (They are the ones with Myrmidons) Multi species. Capital planet is New Atlantis in the Achaean System. Myrmidon supersoldiers that wear Aegis power armor that acts as an uplink into mechs called Titans, although they are only about 30' tall. Models include Hecatoncheires ( a missile mech), Hyperion ( a laser mech), Tethys ( amphibious assault) etc.

The Terran Empire of Sol Invictus: fanatic Romanesque religious empire. Sometimes allies with Achaean League vs aliens, but wants to conquer them. Xenophobic.
Weird cross between Mithraic and Abrahamic religion. Controls the large section of space around the human homeworld, Terra. (aka Earth)

other human factions WIP

The Daekain Dominion: Diabolic humanoids using huge draconic monsters as well as bizarre magitech. In many ways they seem to be human legends of demons and devils come to life. Their name for their rulers even translates to Demon Lords.

The Anekain Autarchy: angelic 'benevolent' humanoids who want to control the whole galaxy 'for its own good '. Rigid caste systems and total lack of autonomy are their idea of a perfect galaxy.

The Void: Eldritch horrors from the empty spaces beyond the galaxy. Inimical to all other factions. Even the Daekai and Anekai (bitter enemies) will ally against them. Served by members of other species somehow brainwashed and driven mad by exposure to their essence. Their motivation for war is unknown, but they seem driven to destroy.

The Melissae: hive mind insectoid beings similar in some ways to terrestrial bees. Their relationship with other factions is complicated because they have very different thought processes from most others. They don't seem to be directly inimical, but they are extremely territorial and their soldiers react violently to any perceived threat or intrusion, regardless of intent.

Vespans: parasitic wasp-like insectoids that lay their eggs in living hosts. Inimical to all, but particularly the Melissae. They do not consider any other species actually sapient. Brutally xenophobic. Luckily, they seem to be few in numbers and hampered by infighting.
Which is good, cuz imagine xenomorphs from Alien, but they can fly and have advanced technology. They have particularly dangerous starfighters.

The Technic League: AI who are the last remnant of several civilizations who built them and died out. Other factions strongly averse to use of AI, which is one of the reasons direct neural control was developed to match AI speed.
The Technic League may have been responsible for the dark forest phenomenon and the Fermi paradox...when civs develop true AI the Technic League arrives.

The Technic League possess technology allowing their machines to disguise themselves as the machines of other civilizations, and have also used it for multi-purpose mecha that can also take the form of tanks, or starfighters, or both. They control the mecha directly, as their own robot bodies, although they easily download and upload into different mechanical forms.
